Not everything can be wrapped in a moving blanket and called done. Some items require a different level of care – and we’re equipped to handle them.
A piano isn’t just heavy – it’s a precision instrument with internal mechanics that can be damaged by improper handling or angle. An antique armoire can’t be tilted the wrong way without structural risk. A large-format canvas painting needs wrapping that doesn’t damage the surface. A 400-pound safe needs rigging equipment and a crew that understands weight distribution.
Meta Movers handles specialty items throughout Bergen County and the greater NJ area with the equipment, technique, and crew training to do the job right. We’ve moved upright and grand pianos, antique furniture, original artwork and sculptures, residential safes, pool tables, and oversized pieces that standard moving companies won’t touch.
Every specialty move starts with a consultation – either by phone or on-site – where we assess the item, the access points, and any rigging or crating requirements. You get a custom quote based on the actual scope of the job, not a generic rate that doesn’t account for what’s involved.
For items of significant monetary or sentimental value, we offer high-value item insurance options to protect your piece throughout transit. Request your specialty moving consultation and tell us what you have – we’ll give you an honest assessment and a plan.
Here’s what every Meta Movers residential move includes – no add-on fees, no surprises.
Upright and grand pianos are moved with dedicated piano boards, moving straps, and stair-climbing equipment as needed. Internal components are protected from shifting, and the instrument is wrapped and padded on all surfaces before loading.
Antique pieces are assessed individually before packing begins. We use appropriate wrapping techniques for wood, veneer, and inlaid surfaces – no standard foam wrap that can damage delicate finishes.
Canvas paintings and framed artwork are wrapped in acid-free glassine paper before any padding is applied. Large format pieces are packed in custom-built wood crates with interior foam padding to prevent any pressure on the surface.
Sculptures and three-dimensional pieces are assessed for weight, fragility, and center-of-gravity before wrapping. Custom foam forms are cut to fit complex shapes when needed.
Safes require specialized dollies, floor protection, and crew coordination for weight distribution. We assess stairways, doorways, and flooring before the move begins. Custom rigging is available for very heavy safes.
Pool tables are disassembled by the felt, slate, and frame – then reassembled and re-leveled at the destination. Felt condition and slate level are confirmed before we leave.
Pieces that won’t fit through standard doorways are assessed for the safest removal method – whether that’s window rigging, stair rigging, or disassembly. We don’t force items through tight spaces.
Contact us by form or phone and describe the item. For complex pieces, we may schedule a brief on-site visit or request photos. We assess access points, stairways, doorways, and any special handling requirements.
Based on the assessment, we provide a flat-rate custom quote that accounts for the specific item, equipment needed, and crew requirements. No guessing, no post-move adjustments.
Our specialty crew arrives with the right equipment, wraps and handles the item with the appropriate technique, and delivers it safely to the destination. For piano moves and pool tables, we confirm the final setup before leaving.
From the consultation through the final placement, every specialty move includes:
Piano moving requires the right equipment and the right technique. Upright pianos are positioned on a piano board, strapped securely, and moved with crew coordination through doorways and stairways. Grand pianos are partially disassembled - legs removed, lid secured, pedal lyre removed - then moved on a piano board and reassembled at the destination. All internal components are protected from movement during transit. We do not move pianos on standard furniture dollies.
Yes. For original paintings, sculptures, and high-value pieces, custom wood crating is available. Crates are built to the specific dimensions of the piece, with interior foam padding to prevent contact with the crate walls. For very large or very fragile pieces, we can coordinate with a specialty art crating provider. Ask about crating during your consultation.
Standard cargo insurance is included on all moves. For specialty items with significant monetary value, we strongly recommend full-value protection coverage, which covers the actual repair or replacement cost rather than the federal released value minimum (60 cents per pound). Your coordinator will explain both options and help you choose the right coverage for your specific item.
Yes, we move residential and commercial safes throughout Bergen County and NJ. Most residential safes - even those weighing 400–800 lbs - are within our standard specialty scope with the appropriate equipment. For very heavy commercial safes or vault doors, contact us for an assessment and we'll be direct about whether we can handle it or need to coordinate with a rigging specialist.
For most specialty items, we need to know: the item type and approximate dimensions or weight, your pickup and delivery locations (including floor, access type, any stairs or tight doorways), and your preferred move date. Photos are helpful for unusual pieces. The more you can tell us upfront, the more accurate your quote will be.
Yes. We can pick up specialty items currently in storage - including our own storage facility - and deliver them to your home. Coordination with third-party storage facilities is also available. Ask your coordinator to confirm details for your specific situation.
